Gifted and Talented
Gifted refers to students who are achieving or have the potential to achieve significantly in advance of their peers in an academic subject. Talented refers to students who are achieving or have the potential to achieve significantly in advance of their peers in music, art, PE or creative art.
The College uses a range of procedures in order to identify students who are gifted and/or talented. Identified students are placed on the College Gifted and Talented register. The register will generally include a cohort of around 5% Gifted and a further 5-10% Talented.
The College recognises the complex needs of the exceptionally able students, and will seek to provide them with opportunity, enrichment and challenge. Students on the register will be mentored, initially by the Co-ordinator, and the mentoring will be recorded. There will be a Gifted and Talented forum for students on the programme to share their ideas and contributions. The programme will include activities organised with similar cohorts from neighbouring schools. Students will be informed of, and encouraged to attend, extra-curricular enrichment and extension opportunities. Parents will be encouraged to support students at home and inform the school of any concerns.
