A-Level and BTEC results

Students are celebrating their Post 16 A-Level and BTEC results, with an excellent set of results. 74% achieved A*-C grades with 10% of the students studying  A-Level courses achieving the highest grade of an A*, gaining 25 A* grades between them.  On BTEC courses, 61% of the grades awarded were the highest possible grade of a Distinction*. Students at Helston Community College have excelled themselves and have made excellent progress over their 5 year journey. Whilst there are some exam enquiries awaiting resolution, the provisional results look very healthy, equalling the achievements of the previous year's more able cohort. Exhibition of Year 9 Final Project Work

This year the United Nations asked the world's population to vote on the priorities it thinks are most important, in an online vote called 'Have Your Say' at www.vote.myworld2015.org/. The UN will then focus on the top priorities to help make the world a safer and fairer place for everyone on the planet.  The Year 9 students selected the six that they think are most important, voted and then used the skills with materials and techniques they have learned this year to independently produce high quality pieces of work in response to that priority. Sports Award Evening

Congratulations to all the winners at this year's Sports Awards Evening.  Prizes were awarded to students for elite performance as well as individual talent in Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Volleyball and Football. At the end of the evening special cups were given out, including the Dr McGovern Award for Aspiration through Sport  which was awarded to Ben Leech, the Michelle James cup for outstanding commitment was awarded to Polly Morris and the Longhurst cup was presented to Aiden Gilbert Ball for the Academic student of the year....

College Council visit Parliament

College Council Trip to Parliament (extract from student blog):- We chose the hottest day of the year so far, in fact the hottest day in July for years, to go to London for a 24 hour day trip. Security was very tight due to Prime Ministers question time happening later in the day.   We met our newly elected local MP Derek Thomas in one of the meeting rooms.  Following this meeting we had a tour around the buildings which every- one found fascinating.  We  got to explore  both the House of Commons and Lords.  After that we joined up with...
