Race for Life at HCC

Friday 6th July 2018

The College is holding its very own Race for Life event for Cancer Research UK on Friday 6th July 2018 and we would love your child to join the fun. The event will take place on the South Site field during period 2. A choice of distances will be offered, 3km and 5km, to all students and staff. Fancy dress for the race is optional. Sports Day

Wednesday 4th July 2018

Helston Community College Sports Day will be taking place on Wednesday 4th July. The format of the Sports Day has changed this year and will feature more activities in which students can participate. These include football, endball, rounders and tug of war; as well as track and field-based athletics events. Due to the increased amount of events Sports Day will be a whole day event with all students expected to arrive at college wearing their PE kit ready for the activities. We will be holding Parents' Information Evenings on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th June 2018 at 6.30pm in the North Site Hall. Year 6 Induction Days

The next stage of our induction procedure involves a 2-day visit to Helston Community College, during which your child will follow a timetable, experience lunch at College and will be involved with a series of workshops aimed at making their transition as easy as possible. Consultation on a change to the timing of lessons

Saturday 9th June 2018

The College is planning to introduce a new timetable in September, which will reduce lesson length and allow more frequent contact with teachers. The aim is to replace the three lessons consisting of 100 minutes with four lessons consisting of 75 minutes. Whilst the overall amount of time students will be taught will not change, the planned changes will allow teachers to revisit topics more frequently, and include memory-based teaching strategies to enable students to develop the skills they will need for the new-style GCSE and Post 16 examinations. Art students visit CAST

Monday 4th June 2018

Just before half term, the Year 10 Fine Art GCSE class were treated to art works by two eminent international artists at CAST on Penrose Road.  In a purpose-build screening room they saw work by Steve Macqueen CBE, an English film director, producer, screenwriter, and video artist, who directed the Oscar Award-winning  '12 Years a Slave'. This film, Gravesend, is concerned with coltan, a vital component in mobile phones and other electronic items. SubseaUK STEM Challenge Final in Aberdeen

On Sunday the 13th of May, a group of 6 Year 9 students boarded a train at Truro headed for Aberdeen, 4 trains (including the London Undergound) and 16 hours later they arrived! The final itself was a really well organised day, and saw our students competing along side teams from Portsmouth, Sutton, Newcastle and St. Andrews. Post 16 Students SKYPE the Supreme Court!

Last week, the UK Supreme Court held a '30 minute SKYPE session' with our A' Level Law students. The students were able to chat with Lord Briggs, from the comfort of their classroom!
