Exhibition of Year 9 Final Project Work

This year the United Nations asked the world's population to vote on the priorities it thinks are most important, in an online vote called 'Have Your Say' at www.vote.myworld2015.org/. The UN will then focus on the top priorities to help make the world a safer and fairer place for everyone on the planet.  The Year 9 students selected the six that they think are most important, voted and then used the skills with materials and techniques they have learned this year to independently produce high quality pieces of work in response to that priority. Sports Award Evening

Monday 13th July 2015

Congratulations to all the winners at this year's Sports Awards Evening.  Prizes were awarded to students for elite performance as well as individual talent in Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Volleyball and Football. At the end of the evening special cups were given out, including the Dr McGovern Award for Aspiration through Sport  which was awarded to Ben Leech, the Michelle James cup for outstanding commitment was awarded to Polly Morris and the Longhurst cup was presented to Aiden Gilbert Ball for the Academic student of the year....

College Council visit Parliament

College Council Trip to Parliament (extract from student blog):- We chose the hottest day of the year so far, in fact the hottest day in July for years, to go to London for a 24 hour day trip. Security was very tight due to Prime Ministers question time happening later in the day.   We met our newly elected local MP Derek Thomas in one of the meeting rooms.  Following this meeting we had a tour around the buildings which every- one found fascinating.  We  got to explore  both the House of Commons and Lords.  After that we joined up with...

'Dance in the City' event

On Saturday 4th July the HYD dancers from Helston Community College travelled to Plymouth where they were invited to perform in the Dance 'Dance in the City' event. This national event is seeing dance groups perform around the country during the month of July. The HYD dancers performed their competition pieces for the last time including; 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by the Junior Team, 'Snow White' by the Junior Duet, 'I have a Dream' by the Senior Team and 'Fire' by all the dancers including teachers!! Day of Dance

Wednesday 8th July 2015

On Wednesday 1st July Year 6 students were invited to a "Day of Dance" organised by Pat Hickman, GCSE and A Level Dance Teacher at Helston College. The dance activities were facilitated by Helston Youth Dance (HYD) dancers, who are Helston College students who attend the after school HYD Group on Thursday evenings from 3.30 to 6.00pm. With funding from the West Cornwall Youth Trust the dancers will continue to run from September 2015 to July 2016. Teen Culture workshop

There will be a Teen Culture workshop with a focus on substance misuse on 14th July. The event will be run by Naomi Osborne who is a Community Development Worker and based at the Culdrose Community Centre in Hibernia Road.  The event, which will be held in the Culdrose Community Centre will run from 6:30 until 8:30 and it is open to all parents including non-service family parents....
