Students' artwork displayed in local business

A selection of work created by our young artists has been displayed in the window of Randle Thomas solicitors. The display involves a selection of Year 12 photographs, as well as a large abstract painting by Year 13 BTEC Art student Ella Blatchford. There is also a selection of clay tiles created by our Year 8 students. These tiles were inspired by Van Gogh's landscape images. The artwork will be on display for the Helston Christmas lights switch on, and throughout the Christmas holidays. Merry Christmas from the Visual and Performing Arts faculty....

Gymnastics success for HCC student

We were delighted to hear that last Friday, Matthew Heaney competed in and won the National Grade Finals, as both an individual gymnast and as part of team. He competed at the Club Level 6 grade and came away with the individual gold medal and the team gold. This means he is the Club Level 6 National Champion and part of the National Champion team which is an incredible achievement. This has been Matthew's most successful year, as he now holds 4 titles for his age level: South West Champion, London Open Champion and the two titles he won on...

Dyslexia Revision Workshop

We recently hosted another revision workshop for parents of our KS4 students. The focus of the workshop was on revision strategies, which can help Dyslexic students with their exam preparation. The afternoon was hosted by our Dyslexia Champion Mrs Caroline Bloor and the County Dyslexia Adviser Jo Davidson. The afternoon was very well attended, with students and parents going home with new ideas and strategies to try out.  There will be further workshops coming up in the spring term. Dyslexia Awareness Week Competition winners

Monday 7th November 2016

Year 7 pupils took part in a story writing competition to raise awareness of Dyslexia. The standard was very high and it was difficult to choose a winner Olivia, Alaia and Summer won a prize for their tutor group – Alex was the overall winner with her beautiful story about a plant's journey from seed to flower. The year 7 entries also helped the College win a prize at the County Dyslexia Conference. Well done and thank you to everyone who took part. Anti-Bullying Champions

Helston Community College is proud to introduce our recently appointed Anti-Bullying Champions. The students had to apply for the position by way of written application and then go through the interview process with a senior member of staff.  All students did extremely well and were complimented on their very articulate applications and the excellent representation of themselves during interview.
