Tom Dobson Rewarded by University of Worcester

Thomas Dobson, from Helston, was awarded the £1,000 scholarship by Vice Chancellor Professor David Green at the brand new University of Worcester Arena at one of two award ceremonies at the beginning of October. Thomas, a third year Graphic Design and Multimedia student, said: "I am delighted to receive the scholarship. Asthma Inhaler's in College

The Community Health Services have withdrawn the emergency inhaler’s they had provided and which were kept in College for emergency use, for known asthmatic students.  This does mean that students who are prescribed an inhaler for their asthma must carry it with them at all times, labelled with their name and tutor group in case they lose it. If any student or parent wishes the College Nurse to keep a spare inhaler for their child this can be arranged. Phoenix Project helps 100 teens in two years

More than 100 young people have been helped by the Phoenix Project.  The mentoring project is based at the Helston Fire Station for a few hours each week, as well as during the school holidays for a wide group of young people. The project works closely with the National Trust, RNAS Culdrose, Active Plus, the Police and the Falmouth School of Sailing.  Most recently the young people have spent time working on the maintenance of the monument at the foot of Coinagehall Street and also building footpaths on the Penrose estate. Ciaran Barker, a lifetime member of the Cornish Blues Chelsea Supporters Club and Culdrose Hawks U13 Captain, was invited to become a Chelsea FC mascot for the day for their match against Swindon Town FC, at Swindon on the 24th September. Helston & Lizard Foodbank receive cheque

David Williams receives a cheque from Assistant Headteacher David Lewis on behalf of the Mustard Seed Charity and the Helston & Lizard Foodbank. Students at Helston Community College have raised £779.25 as well as donating food.  The local charity is being supported by children and young people across the area as part of the joint work being done through the Helston & Lizard Co-operative Education Trust. The Helston & Lizard Foodbank, which can be found at the Open Door Café, 14 Wendron Street, Helston, aims to provide 3 days’ worth of non-perishable food to help those experiencing short term...

Military Talk for Post 16 Students

There was a warm welcome for two ex students who are currently training with the Royal Marines.    They gave a valuable, informative and aspirational talk to Post 16 students about life in the Royal Marines. Dan Wake and Tom Wallis (previously Head Boy) both studied A Levels and went on to gain University Degrees before deciding to join the Royal Marines as Officer candidates.
