Proposed Amendment to Admissions Policy (reduction in Published Admission Number) for 2015/16

Helston Community College acts in accordance with the Admissions Code 2012, the School Admission Appeals Code 2012, other laws relating to admissions and the relevant human rights and equalities legislation Our admission arrangements for 2015/16 must be determined by 15 April 2014. We are proposing a reduction in the Published Admission Number (PAN) from 270 to 250 to be effective from September 2015.  No other changes are proposed to our Admissions Policy. Mathematics Challenge for P16 students

On Wednesday 27th November, Helston Community College took its first ever team to the Senior Team Mathematics Challenge regional heat, organised by the Further Maths Support Programme. The team was made up of two Year 12 AS Maths and Further Maths students, Brook Hocking and Shane Cripps, along with two Year 13 A2 Maths and Further Maths students, Lisa Gong and David Hosking. Last day of Term

The College will be closing at 2.05 pm on Friday 20th December for the start of the Christmas Holidays. We have informed the school bus companies of this change in timing, but we are unable to change the times of the scheduled service buses. Students who travel on service buses are welcome to remain in College until 3.15 pm or you may prefer to provide alternative arrangements for your child to get home.  All Parents / Carers will receive a letter about these end of term arrangements shortly ...

Year 7 buzzing with new books

Year 7 Students at Helston Community College have chosen their own book to take home and keep from a list of 17 titles provided by the College Library. The librarians have purchased the books as a part of the “Bookbuzz” (a reading programme from the Book Trust) which supports schools in encouraging reading for pleasure, independent choice and the development of a whole school reading culture. Helston’s Rock School

On December 5th Helston’s Epworth Hall plays host to the first Helston Community College Rock School gig. The evening will feature bands from HCC’s Rock School, who have been working hard all term creating sets of cover material by bands such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Feeder, Survivor and Weezer to name but a few. The bands rehearse every week on a Tuesday and Friday and feature students from year’s seven to eleven. Venus Flower' Dance Project

Friday 22nd November 2013

                    The 'Venus Flower' Dance Project was a collaboration between Cscape Dance Company, Dance Republic 2 and Falmouth University. Helston Community College was invited to send some of their talented dancers to work with professional dancers on a site specific dance piece. The young dancers became part of the 100 Company of young, professional and older dancers performing in Trebah Gardens in the Summer. Year 11 HCC student is budding film maker

Year 11 Chris Ivill has recently created his own version of Sherlock Holmes, telling the tale of the young sleuth attending Helston Community College in modern times. He enlisted fellow students to star as actors, extras and help with his production.  His dog Molly also stars as the detective’s pet. The film has been shot at Helston Community College, Helston Railway and at locations around the town. Chris began writing the script in May 2012 and started shooting in March of this year. Post 16 RNLI Fundraiser

There was a nautical theme to a fundraising event in Helston recently when a group of HCC students pushed the boat out in support of the RNLI. As part of the Event Management unit in her Travel and Tourism course, Sophie Leonard decided to arrange a fundraiser day with the help of her fellow students. HCC Students visit the Palace to collect their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards

This year Helston Community College Duke of Edinburgh Gold participants have visited St James’s Palace on numerous occasions to receive their Gold Awards from Prince Philip or Prince Edward. The most recent group of participants had the privilege of attending the 500th Gold Award Presentation ceremony and received their well earned Duke of Edinburgh Award in the presence of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.
