Cornwall Sixth Forms Together sports partnership tournaments

On Wednesday 30th September, Helston Community College hosted the first round of the Cornwall Sixth Forms Together sports partnership involving tournaments in mixed tag rugby and mixed beach volleyball. The event was supported by the Cornwall RFU development officer, Phil Morris, and the Cornwall Volleyball Academy led by Mike Jenkin. Eight teams in each event turned up from the 6th forms at Newquay Tretherras, Helston, Falmouth, Camborne and Redruth and a fun but competitive afternoon of sport was had by all. Helston Phoenix

In August the Helston Phoenix Team ran a one week project for 12 young people from Helston.  It was funded by the Cornwall 100 Club (Cornwall Community Foundation) The project's aim was to build a healthy lifestyle, and help the young people build good social network.  It also looked at raising aspirations by providing male and female role models. The activities were also helped young people to build confidence and learn to lead a team while taking part in competitive activities. Community Open Evening - great success

Helston Community College recently opened its doors in the evening for parents and children from local primary schools in order to give them the opportunity to tour the school and get a taste of the facilities and opportunities available. The response was fantastic and several hundred parents and children accepted the invitation to pay a visit. Head Teacher, Donna Bryant, welcomed the guests and spoke to them about the values and approaches of the Co operative Trust school and what it has to offer the children in the community. A-Level and BTEC results

Students are celebrating their Post 16 A-Level and BTEC results, with an excellent set of results. 74% achieved A*-C grades with 10% of the students studying  A-Level courses achieving the highest grade of an A*, gaining 25 A* grades between them.  On BTEC courses, 61% of the grades awarded were the highest possible grade of a Distinction*. Students at Helston Community College have excelled themselves and have made excellent progress over their 5 year journey. Whilst there are some exam enquiries awaiting resolution, the provisional results look very healthy, equalling the achievements of the previous year's more able cohort.
