Measles Alert

Measles Alert As you will be aware at the moment a measles outbreak is endemic in Wales and there have been reported cases in the West Country infecting all age groups. If your child/young person did not receive two doses of the MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) vaccine, when they were a baby and pre-school age, then they could be at risk from contracting this infection. If you are unsure your child/young person is protected please check with your Doctors Surgery. What is it? Measles is an infection of the respiratory system. Success for HCC Gymnastics Team

Monday 22nd April 2013

Helston Community College Gymnastics Teams achieved great results at the South West Schools Competition. The under 19 girls team came a creditable 5th with a score of 103.1 within a strong field. The under 19 mixed team came 1st and will be travelling to Stoke-On-Trent for the National Finals in May. All the gymnasts performed well on both floor and vault with Jaron Morgan as the overall individual winner making him the number 1 ranked gymnast in the South West. P16 Students gain their YASS Certificates

The Young Applicants in School Scheme is designed to give A-Level students the opportunity to experience University level study whilst still in school education. Red Nose Day P16 Doughnut Eating Competition

Wednesday 27th March 2013

Red Nose Day this year, fourteen of our Post 16 students took part in a doughnut eating competition. The Students were given an assortment of ten flavoured doughnuts with the challenge to eat them all within one minute, (or as near to one minute as possible). In a tightly fought race, Liam Wade cleared his plate of doughnuts in just over a minute and was crowned the Champion. Mrs Williams presented Liam with a medal....

Apprenticeship Event

                  HCC recently held an event providing information and guidance about the range of apprenticeships on offer and how to research and apply for places. Careers South West provided an overview of apprenticeships in Cornwall and this was followed by workshops led by local apprenticeship providers. There was also a workshop designed to support students in writing a CV. This event also helped student’s research possible future career and training options that will be available to them once they complete their Post 16 education.                ...

A Call To Arms

A new and innovative project has begun at Helston Community College where the students are working alongside military veterans.   The programme passes onto students skills the veterans have learned in the field, including problem solving, first aid and interview techniques. The aim is to develop confidence and communication skills, building aspiration and ambition.  It is a two-way process as the scheme also supports the combat veterans providing an experience that encourages social interaction, builds confidence and earns training qualifications.
