Competition success for Year 8 student

Flautist Maia Roberts, a Year 8 student had a very successful day at the Camborne musical festival. Maia won 5 trophies, these were in: the Grade 8 woodwind class with distinction, the woodwind duet class with honours, the most promising under 18 woodwind player, the most promising musician, and she shared the cup for the best overall performance at the festival! The cup Maia really wanted was "the most promising under 18 woodwind player" as she had won it 2 years previously, and there was a gap on her shelf at home! HCC's aspiring young author

Year 8 student Joe Lander is now a published author with his first book Murder Anonymous. The inspiration for this book came from a collection of short stories he had already written. Joe had also come up with lots of characters in these short stories, which he transferred to the final book. After several drafts and proof reading by his parents, Joe had to make the decision of the book's title and after much consideration decided on Murder Anonymous. He has definitely going to write another book and even has plans for a trilogy....

Operation Christmas Child - Samaritan’s Purse

At the beginning of November Year 7 students were given the challenge of bringing in a shoe box filled with presents to be given to underprivileged children living in poverty, conflict and orphanages who would not otherwise be receiving anything this Christmas.  Operation Christmas Child is an initiative of Samaritans' Purse – a Christian relief organisation. Our students rose to the challenge and collected lots of suitable gifts filling nearly 30 boxes. Post 16 student in final of photography competition

A Level Photography students have sent entries to 'The Clothes Show Creative Awards' and Jacob Fullman (Year 13) has been chosen as one of the 8 finalists for the young photographer award.  This is a national competition, open for young people aged 17 to 22, and  so includes graduates.  Jacob has two free tickets to go to the NEC Birmingham for the final result in December. The finalists will have their images showcased on the catwalk, the first prize is £1000 and £500 for the educational institute involved, a camera and work experience with Olympus.  To get to the final is truly...

HCC U14 Hockey team 2nd best team in County

On Thursday 5th November, Helston U14 Hockey team travelled to Truro High School to compete in the County hockey tournament which consisted of 15 teams across the County. Despite the horrific weather conditions, Helston had a bright start and won their first two matches convincingly, scoring several goals and keeping a clean sheet. The third game versus Truro High school tested the team and the high school won 2-1, however this did not stop Helston going on to win their final game 4-0 and qualifying for the semi finals held at Penair School. On Tuesday 3rd of November the Art department was treated to art workshops from two contemporary artists. Bob Walley and Jackie Yeoman are both artists, lecturers and teachers who have been working closely with Falmouth Art Gallery during their current  ‘Soil’ exhibition. Jackie has a number of pieces in the exhibition and Bob has carried out lots of workshops in the gallery.
