College success at national gymnastics finals

21st March 2018

The Under 13 Girls and the Under 16 Mixed Gymnastics Teams travelled to Stoke on Trent at the weekend to compete in the National Finals of the British Schools Milano Teams Gymnastics Competition.

It was an extremely busy weekend with some fantastic gymnasts from across the Country and some snow drifts!

The Under 13 Girls Team included Morwenna Holbrook and Scarlett Thompson from year 7 and Ashleigh Price and Kaitlyn Standing from year 8. For this competition, only three gymnasts can perform on floor and vault:

Scarlett scored 13.96 on floor and 14.85 on vault

Kaitlyn scored 14.00 on floor, 15.00 on vault

Ashleigh scored 14.06 on floor, 145.75 on vault. This was the highest vault score in this age group!

With a very high score of 26.10 in the synchronised routine the team came 4th out of 22 teams. A fabulous result, which also meant they are in Regional Bronze Position with Pilton School.

The Under 16 Mixed Team competed against 15 teams across the Country. The team consisted of Shannon Standing (Y11), Phoebe Jenkin (Y11) and Cameron Jenkin (Y8). Shannon scored 14.100 on floor

Cameron scored 13.50 on floor and 14.75 on vault. Cameron scored higher than many 16yr old boys!

Shannon scored 14.03 on floor and 14.50 on vault

Phoebe scored 14.16 on floor, 13.90 on vault

With a score of 24.60 in the synchronised routine the team came 2nd missing first place by 0.32!! A great result, which also means they are the National Regional Champions with Pilton Community College.

Special thanks to Ainsti Hickman-Jones (Gymnastics Coach at Penzance Gym), Pat Hickman (Choreography and team coordinating) Penzance Gym Club (Training Facilities), Dave Semmons (Music editing) and Ian for bus driving and getting the team home safely in the snow drifts.
