Information regarding Free School Meals

Everyday over 8,000 students in Cornwall receive free school meals but there are definitely more students who could be eligible.

It is easy to apply and once an application has been agreed parents will be sent information so that they can renew their claim every six months.

Details of the pupils who receive free school meals are always kept completely confidential by both Cornwall's Children's Service Authority and the School.

Who qualifies?

To qualify for free school meals the parent or guardian of the child should be in receipt of one the following qualifying benefits:

Income Support (IS)
Job Seekers' Allowance (Income-based)(JSAIB)
Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA-IR)
Child Tax Credit (CTC) with an annual income of (as shown on your award letter from the Inland Revenue) no more than £16,190.
The Guarantee element of Pension Credit (GPC)
Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (IAA)

Please note - people receiving Working Tax Credit (WTC) cannot apply for Free School Meals

Proving Income

Cornwall Council can now check your entitlement to benefit using a new on-line checking system called the 'HUB'

Please complete and sign the 'HUB' declaration on the Free School Meals application form if you would like us to check your eligibility by this system; we need your authorisation that we can share your data.
