Post 16 students visit Watson Marlow

1st February 2018

The Year 12 and 13 Tech Level students recently visited Watson Marlow, a market leading peristaltic pump company in Falmouth (They make the pumps which provide clean water to Falmouth, and the flavours to McDonalds thickshakes)!

For their coursework, students have been recently been given a task of designing and making a handling device which can pick up a 50mm cube, move it 400mm, and lowered it onto a 100mm target square.

Therefore to see a robotic arm carrying out a similar task inserting springs and grease into keyboard keys, and positioning them into a tray for production proved to be an excellent research opportunity.  Watson Marlow were extremely welcoming, enthusing the students to pursue a career in STEM based Industries.  The whole site was arranged in an exemplary fashion, with hi-tech equipment running with absolute efficiency.  The students were also very interested to meet the Design Development team, and the equipment they use to rapidly prototype their ideas.

Another outstanding visit to a local company.  The College would like to thank them for their hospitality and time.
