Post 16 Work Experience

13th July 2018

During the summer term, Helston Community College Post 16 students have enjoyed taking part in work experience with a wide variety of employers. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank our local community for hosting the students and giving them your valuable time and knowledge so that they can gain experience in areas that they aspire to work, further study or train. We would also like to illustrate the range of experiences this year which included:

• Anisha, who spent a week at RAdesign in St Ives and had a wonderful week visiting clients, viewing past architectural projects and even designed her own house. Anisha thoroughly enjoyed her week and learnt so much about becoming an architect.

• Jess, who wanted to thank her work experience hosts https://www.tomraffield.com/ for an outstanding week. Jess worked with a young team of designers, some of them ex Helston students, looking at the marketing of products, engineering and designing light fittings and furniture with sustainable products. Jess found the week very inspiring.

• David, who spent a week at In Steel http://www.insteelonline.co.uk/ the week was very practical and David was able to see a variety of engineering and welding skills from a superb employer. He was able to make his own small projects and learnt some new, valuable skills that can be put to use in his studies at college.

• Natasha, who spent a week at the Packet Media http://www.falmouthpacket.co.uk/ as a newspaper reporter. Natasha was given the opportunity to write some articles and was proud to see that they were published in the local paper.

• Lowenna, who attended https://www.duchyhospital.co.uk/ she aspires to follow a career in medicine and the week at The Royal Dutchy Hospital gave her such an incredible insight into theatre and surgery.

Once again the College would like to thank all the local employers for hosting our students and we look forward to working with them again next year.
