Helston’s High Flyers!
Sixth form students from Helston Community College celebrated some outstanding exam results today. The students have excelled with a near perfect 100% pass rate with, once again, over 90% of them securing their first-choice place at university - well above the national average.
Almost a third of all the grades achieved were A*/A or equivalent, with over half of the students achieving at least one of the top grades. Our year 12 Construction students also performed exceptionally well, passing the BTEC Level 2 Construction Diploma after one year of study – a fitting tribute to their legendary Construction teacher, Nigel Philpott, who sadly died recently.
Alex Lingard, the College’s Headteacher said, "We are very proud of our students’ achievements – they have worked exceptionally hard and deserve their success. It has been another great year of results. May I take this opportunity to thank each of them for their dedication and thank all the staff who have supported them so well – a wonderful team effort!”
Our Year 13 students are moving on to a diverse range of higher education courses, employment, further vocational training and apprenticeships. This year sees 45 students bound for university. We are thrilled to see students progressing into a wide range of fields. For example, Toby Adair (A*, A*, A*, A) and Louie Atkins (A, A, A) are going to study mathematics and chemistry at University College London; Alice Game (A*, A*, A) is going to study biology at the University of Bath; Bethany Fooks (A*, B, C) going to study English at Kings College, London; Isabelle Goldsworthy (A*, Dist*, Dist*, Dist*) going to study Music at Falmouth University; Lily Healey (A*, A, B) going to study environmental humanities at the University of Exeter; Cassie Pryor (A, A, A) is off to the University of Washington, USA to study natural sciences, and Evie Folds going to study acting at Bath Spa University.
Dr Kieran Ryan, Head of Sixth Form, commented, “The hard work of students has paid off this year, with outstanding performances in a whole range of subjects, but particularly in mathematics and the science A-Levels. I am very grateful for the effort and dedication of staff, who have challenged, inspired and supported students throughout their time with us.”
