At Helston Community College, we recognise that personal development continues to be an important part of students’ education beyond Key Stage 4. Our KS5 PSHE programme supports students as they prepare for the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges of adult life.
Through tutor time, assemblies and guest speakers, students are provided with opportunities to explore a range of relevant and thought-provoking topics. These experiences encourage students to develop their independence, confidence, resilience and understanding of the wider world.
The programme is designed to complement students’ academic studies and support their progression into further education, employment and adult life. It includes opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding of areas such as:
Guest speakers and assemblies provide valuable opportunities for students to hear different perspectives, challenge their thinking and connect their learning to real-life experiences. Tutor time further supports this through discussion, reflection and the development of key personal and social skills.
Our KS5 provision is responsive to the needs of our students and is regularly reviewed to ensure that it remains relevant, meaningful and appropriate for young adults. We aim to equip students with the knowledge, confidence and values they need to make informed decisions, take responsibility for their future and contribute positively to society.
Personal development remains central to our commitment to preparing students not only for academic and professional success, but also for fulfilling, healthy and responsible adult lives.
