Students at Helston Community College are celebrating an impressive set of A Level results, with the overwhelming majority securing places on their chosen degree courses at universities across the UK.
For another year, an amazing 90% of university applicants from Helston were successful in securing places in their subject of choice, reflecting both the ambition of students and the excellent guidance and support provided throughout their studies.
A particular highlight of this year's destinations is the strong progression into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. More than 60% of students have secured places on STEM-related degree programmes, including highly competitive courses such as Medicine, Engineering, Geology, Biology and Chemistry at some of the country's leading universities. Two outstanding students include Annabel Nicholas, achieving A*, A, A, going to study medicine at the University of Exeter and Lucas Ford achieving A*, A*, A, going on to study mechanical engineering at the University of Bath.
Alongside this success in STEM disciplines, students have also gained places on a range of respected humanities and social science programmes, including Law, History, English, and Philosophy, demonstrating the breadth of academic achievement across the College.
The College is also proud of its ongoing partnership with the University of Exeter, with more than 20% of our students receiving offers to study there. This reflects the strength of the close relationship between the two institutions and the opportunities it provides students through collaborative activities, outreach programmes and progression support.
Mr Alex Lingard, the Headteacher of Helston Community College said:
"We are incredibly proud of our students and all they have achieved. Their results are the product of hard work, resilience and determination, supported by the dedication of our staff and the encouragement of families and friends.
It is particularly pleasing to see that once again 90% of students secured places on their first-choice courses. The fact that more than 60% are progressing to STEM subjects, including Medicine and Engineering, highlights the strength of our provision and the aspirations of our learners. At the same time, students are successfully moving on to a wide range of disciplines such as History, English and Philosophy, showcasing the diversity of talent within our College."
As students prepare to begin the next chapter of their education, they will join universities across the country to pursue a wide range of academic and professional ambitions, from healthcare, scientific research and engineering to education, communications, law and the arts.
Everyone at Helston Community College congratulates this year's students on their achievements and wishes them every success in the future.
