GCSE Results

23rd August 2018

Students at Helston Community College had much to celebrate on receiving their GCSE results this morning. This year, the vast majority of GCSEs were the new 9-1 grade qualifications, and students rose to the challenge.

In English Language, 75% of students achieved a ‘Standard Pass’ at Grade 4, and seven students scored the top grade of a 9. In English Literature, 73% of students achieved a ‘Standard Pass’. Overall, when considering both of these English qualifications together, the figure rises to 82%. In Mathematics, the percentage of students achieving a ‘Standard Pass’ was 73%, with 5 students receiving the prestigious grade 9.

A number of subjects performed very well at the top grade range (grades 7 to 9), including Fine Art, French, BTEC Sport, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Eight students achieved grade 9 in Physics, and there were twenty-five grade 9s awarded in Science overall.

Particular congratulations go to the following students for their outstanding achievements:

Thomas Fogg, Lucy Treloar, Ryan Williams, Freya Tatham, Oliver Wedlake, Alex King, Finlay Ford, Sarah Pengelly, Alice Crooks and Owen Williams. Thomas Fogg’s performance was truly exceptional, scoring the highest grade possible across every subject!

Also, the following students made superb progress across their full suite of qualifications, and deserve praise for their efforts:

Emily Rodda, Will Middleton, Esther Searle, Indigo Wills, Seth Murrells, Max Sarilar, Jacob Tiddy, Loveday Ayto and Kathryn Benney.

We are looking forward to many of our Year 11 students continuing their studies at Helston Community College Sixth Form, along with a number of external applicants.
