Cornwall Schools Horse Ridng Competition

12th November 2019

Helston Community College entered 3 teams in the Cornwall Schools Show Jumping Competition on Sunday 3rd Nov (27 teams took part altogether). The girls showed true grit as the weather was against them and the competition lasted from 9.30am until 6pm without any shelter.  To enter the competition the girls had to get up early on the day, make themselves, their horses and their tack look sparkling clean for the Tack and Turnout element and ride 2 sizable courses of show jumps, where the second component was timed.  To anyone who has not tried to do this it may look easy, even as though the horse does all the work and you just need to hold on, but I can assure you the guts, skill and determination required goes unseen.

The results speak for themselves and Helston Community College is so proud of you all!

Helston Flyers Open team (jumping 95cm) - 3rd place jumping and 4th place in the Tack and Turnout element.

Helston Rockets Novice team (jumping 65/75cm) - 2nd place jumping and 1st place in the Tack and Turnout element.

Helston Flyers Novice team (jumping 65/75cm) - 2nd place in the Tack and Turnout element

3rd place individual award in the 65cm to Aimee Thorpe.

Our incredible teams not only stole the show in the tack and turnout but jumped some fabulous rounds in the mud, rain and chilly temperatures.

Well done to:

Maddie Nicholls, Katherine Benney, Rosa Lawer, Leah Smith, Aimee Thorpe, Emily Bent, Freya Skingley, Flick Biddick and  Amber Fitzgerald.

Many thanks to Mrs Liles for taking the girls on this experience.
