Beating the Boundaries 2023

18th April 2023

Dear parents and carers

Beating the Boundaries

We have been contacted by Pamela Lavell, the Town Clerk of Helston Town Council.  She has reminded us of the ancient and much loved tradition in Helston Town to walk the town’s boundary stones, a ceremony that came about to confirm the Town’s boundaries before the advent of maps.  The ceremony is traditionally knowns as “Beating the Bounds” and this year the section of the Town Boundary to be “beaten” will be between Lowertown, Stone Number 9, Newham Old Hill to Porthleven Hill and Penventon Farm, Boundary Stone Number 2 on Wednesday 17 May 2023.

Should any parents, carers and/or students wish to take part, please can you kindly inform Pamela Lavelle by Monday 1 May 2023 in order that she can arrange adequate transport.  Unfortunately it will not be possible to guarantee return transport for those who just turn up on the day.  Those wishing to take part should assemble at the grass triangle outside of the Fire Station on the B3297 Redruth Road at the junction to Water Ma Trout Industrial Estate, at 1.30pm.

Students and parents/carers should be capable of traversing the several mile route involved.  Please be aware that you should wear sensible, adequate footwear and all-weather clothing for the occasion.

Please contact Pamela Lavelle via email townclerk@helston-tc.gov.uk or telephone 01326 572063 to ask any questions or to let her know that you wish to take part.

Kind regards
