Science Rocket Car Challenge

3rd April 2019

The science faculty have been running a year 7 STEM challenge. The challenge was to understand how aerodynamics effect moving objects, as such the year group shaped foam cars and fitted them with rocket motors and sent them down a track at about 60mph.
The year 7 cohort have had a go at the challenge and this culminated in the whole year group racing on Friday the 29th and Monday the 1st. In addition to the year group challenge, I took 10 of the most enthusiastic students to attend the regional final at RNAS Culdrose on Tuesday the 2nd. We enjoyed a full day of making and racing cars, looking at interactive displays, crawling over the firefighting appliances, flying drones and operating the Merlin nose camera. The day ended with a presentation and we were placed second out of the Cornwall schools. Consequently we have secured ourselves a place in the national final to be held in Duxford later this year. We also received a special trophy for our excellent team work. The students were well presented and immaculately behaved and are a credit to the school.
