TikTok Protests - Message from the Headteacher

26th February 2023

Dear Parents and Carers

We have been made aware of a TikTok trend where children have been organising protests in schools across the country via social media. Some of these TikToks have gone viral and have become an influence and a cause for concern. Protesting in the way that has recently been seen in a small number of schools can put people at risk and make people feel unsafe and therefore is not acceptable.

I am very proud of our College community and I do not anticipate there being similar protests at Helston. However, just to be certain, I am writing to ask you to remind your child(ren) about the appropriate channels for raising a concern.

I place great value on the importance of student voice. We gain the views and opinions of students through our student leadership teams, through student surveys and by inviting students to raise their concerns with a member of staff. I cannot tolerate any behaviour that poses a risk to health and safety or fails to go through the appropriate channels.

Visitors regularly praise the politeness of students and the warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I would like to thank you in advance for your support in helping us ensure all students follow the appropriate protocol and continue to behave as the considerate, respectful and responsible citizens that we expect them to be.

Yours sincerely
Alex Lingard
