South West Young Persons Art Prize

25th March 2019

The Newlyn Art Gallery & the Exchange have recently announced the winners of their The Young People’s Art Prize. An annual competition for secondary school students from across the county. There are three age categories [11 -13], [14-16] and [17-19]. The Art & Photography Departments recently submitted a selection of work, produced by students on the theme of flora. Our students had work shortlisted for a prize in 11-13 & 17-19 categories. This year they had a total of 263 pieces submitted, with 136 shortlisted for display.  We were really successful in the 17-19 category with Otto securing second place for his multimedia, sculptural man with ceramic vessels. Frankie won the top prize with her beautiful photograph of bluebells.

All the selected work is being exhibited at the internationally reputed Exchange Gallery in Penzance for a month, (21 April), a wonderful achievement. There is a special prize, The Visitors’ Vote, which is awarded at the end of the exhibition to the artist whose work receives the most votes from the public, so please go and see the work and vote for your favourite.
