South West Junior Chef of the Year

7th June 2022

I was very pleased to receive an email from Julie Harvey, the Director of South West Chef of the Year,  who wished to thank Helston Community College for encouraging our students to enter.

  • Tamsin Marquis 7A
  • Chloe Douglas  9C
  • Autumn Saunders-Whittaker 8F
  • George Harrison  8E

I’m sorry to say that Tamsin, Chloe and Autumn’s entries were not successful this time.  Julie Harvey has sent emails to each of them directly to thank them and congratulate their brilliant entries.

The judges:
Pete Murt – Head Chef, The Seafood Restaurant; Padstow,
Jude Kereama – Chef Proprietor, Kota Restaurant, Porthleven;
Clyde Conellan – Chef Lecturer, Cornwall College.

Mentor judge: Pete Murt selected entrants to invite to the county finals based on:
  • the creativity of the recipe – they are always interested in why you have chosen a particular recipe.
  • the balance of the ingredients used in the recipe
  • the skills required to create the dish
  • the use of ingredients produced locally to you or from the wider South West region (from any of the six counties making up the South West: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire)
I am delighted to let you know that George has been invited to join them to prepare his dish for the judges at the Cornwall Junior Chef of the Year final on Friday 17 June at Cornwall College, Camborne.  The winners in each of the six counties will meet at the South West final in October.  I am sure you will join me in wishing George the best of luck next week.

Good luck George!
