Duke of Edinburgh Award

22nd May 2019

Duke of Edinburgh - Bronze Award Practice Expedition

Last weekend forty-one Year 9 students took part in a practice expedition. Students departed from various points in Helston and navigated their way to Teneriffe Farm National Trust Campsite, completing the 7 hour circuit in teams. Mr Semmons and the team involved are extremely proud of the students who showed great perseverance and determination to complete the practice under challenging conditions. Students were required to set-up camp which included cooking their evening meal. During the circuit, the students were self-sufficient, showcasing many of the cooperative values. We hope the students now feel prepared for their assessed expedition in September.

Duke of Edinburgh - New Recruits Parents’ Information Evening

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a nationally recognised qualification, open to students aged 13—25 years. It is recognised by prospective employers and both further and higher education providers. Buckingham Palace advocate that the Award hopes to inspire students to “discover fresh interests, make new friends and find satisfaction in giving service to others.“ Mr Semmons is our Award Manager and has been running the Duke of Edinburgh Award at the College for over a decade. Mr Semmons brings a wealth of experience to best support participants so they have every opportunity to achieve.
