Eco Society Helston Community College

10th October 2019

In September 2019, Helston Climate Action Group published their ‘Helston Climate Action Plan’, which is an inspiring and useful document, detailing ways in which Helston can move towards becoming carbon neutral. As a teacher in Helston Community College, I believe that our staff and students can certainly act as part of our community to achieve carbon neutrality. I run an eco-society in college and know that many of our students are interested in doing their bit for the environment. I am proud of their commitment and support them whole-heartedly. As you already know, the college has signed up to a Green Charter with other Cornish Schools and will be working towards achieving our ‘Eco-School’ status.

I intend, therefore, to publish regular updates concerning the work that staff and students are undertaking to support the town in its commitment to becoming carbon neutral. I hope that we can share our journey in an honest manner – sharing the ups and downs of our efforts!

This month staff and students are involved in climate conferences and workshops; watch this space for more updates following these events!

If you are involved in any way, however small, in supporting the town’s aim to become carbon neutral, or would like to offer the college any support in our efforts to become more sustainable, please get in touch; I would love to hear from you.

Mrs Ross-Macdonald.
